Authors Note 1st Draft

Certain events in this story are true. However, the main character's name is actually Peter, my cousin who is half norweigen, and half thai. Peter once moved to the U.S. to go to school there and learn english. Like me, he lived in New York. Back in Norway, there wasn't much racism going on, at least not between him and the people he knew, but then again, their culture isn't as diverse as the U.S. He got tired of being called "you smart asian" or even "you whitey" sometimes. Of course he made friends, but he got tired of hearing racist jokes so he decided to move back to Norway and had his parents hire a british teacher to teach him english. The thing I've always wondered during the process of writing this story is what would happen if Peter did what Mario did in this book. Everything is not easy as the seems, so who knows what might have happened.
In the real world, one will think the other is racist, and the other will think the same about that one. Nondiscrimination laws should be applied equally among all citizens, including those who happened to be white (Webb). Nowadays, it's not just white discriminating againts black, but also the other way around. I've seen it with my own eyes.
The People of the U.S are living in a diverse world. We need to learn how to accept each other for who they are, and not just race. We work in an ethnically diverse department and in ethnically diverse comminitie, and officers who aren't comfortable with that aren't going to make it (Dutta). Appearently, things aren't going to function correctly if people don't work together.
I've seen racism everywhere. Sometimes I don't like it, sometimes I don't mind it, and sometimes I'm the racist one. I don't like it, but I grew up around these things. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I didn't act a certain way. Racism may or may not end. Fairness will happen and bitterness will fade away (Webb).

Picture Book Draft

Do you see that guy?
That guy standing over there
He would always cry
Because nobody ever cared
But now look at him
His face is so sunny
Always laughing with his friends
Because they are oh so funny
His name is Mario
A very nice kid you know
He wasn’t always like this
Not everything was a bliss
It all started a long time ago
When Mario had no foe
Back when he went to the Ziggy School
Where everyone would call each other a fool
They had a reason of course
And it wasn’t very nice
It started with 3 groups of kids
Whose hearts were colder than ice
Look at the Asian group
Oh they are very smart
Think about what they can do
And look at their amazing anime art
Now turn to the Black group
They are beasts at basketball
They can alleyoop and dunk the hoop
And they always win the brawls
Lastly look at the White group
Look at how rich they are
Look at their fancy soup
And watch them become superstars

Mario had no friends here
So he decided to go
It became very clear
That he needed a foe
Bye bye Ziggy and hello Poppy
Poppy was his new school
He thought it would be different
But he realized it was just as cruel.
He was hoping to find someone like him
Someone who is multiracial
The only person he could find was Tim
But Tim was too scared
Scared of being mocked all day
So he tried to stay away
During recess Mario was walking around
He saw a lot of things he didn’t like
People insulting each other brought him down
So he decided to take a hike
Before he left, he heard what they said
It hurt his feelings, and it made him cry
The next day, Mario tried to avoid them
They were everywhere, so he couldn’t do it
He couldn’t take it anymore
So he started talking
Hoping that he would be ignored
The others started gawking

“Being Asian isn’t so bad,
At least you’re smart
Being Black isn’t so bad
At least you’ve got talent
Being White isn’t so bad
At least you have money”
Mario continued his speech
Others just looked at him
They all started thinking
And they all seem very dim

At last after a while
They started to understand
So the leader of the White group Kyle
Lend Mario a hand
The Asian and the Black leader followed
Hoping they’d become great friends
Coming to an agreement
They friendship will never end
